About Green Chemistry

Inspired by the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990, Green Chemistry's main goal is to find chemically and environmentally benign ways for our society to operate—from our manufacturing processes and energy resources to completing our everyday household chores. Chemists who practice Green Chemistry are committed to reducing or eliminating the use and creation of hazardous substances in the products and processes they innovate. In short, they eliminate pollution before it happens.

One day all chemistry will be Green Chemistry. Until then, the ACS Green Chemistry Institute® and chEMPOWER will act as a leading agent of change in the movement to make our world a greener place to live.
